Our Defender SportShields has an extremely strong polycarbonate frame that deflects and absorbs the energy from the baseball or softball. Polycarbonate is the material used in bulletproof glass and many other safety products in sports, including football helmets, baseball helmets, etc. Polycarbonate, although very strong, is extremely lightweight and will not shatter. A non-glare/deglossing effect was added to the top 2-bars to help take away the glare from the sun. The foam is a closed cell foam that is very good when dense at absorbing energy and when soft is very comfortable to the skin. Our dense foam layer is 3/8 inch thick and is molded together with a 3/8 layer of soft foam that comes in contact with the skin. The foam is designed to channel perspiration away from the eyes. The channels in the foam also helps with ventilation. The strap is a very high quality elastic strap that is not only supportive, but also very comfortable. The chin cup is designed much like the brow pad with a dense and soft foam for energy absorption and comfort. It also is adjustable to fit to each person’s face.
